Dmytro is a graduate of the Shakhtar Academy, he made his debut with the first team on June 19, 2004. He played for the Miners until 2009, and then in 2010-2015. During this period, Chyhrynskyi made a total of 189 apps for the club and gained 14 trophies with the team, helping to win the UEFA Cup. He also played for Metalurh Zaporizhzhia (2005–2006), Barcelona (2009–2010), Dnipro (2015–2016), AEK (2016–2021), and Ionikos (2021–2023). Dmytro has made 29 apps for the Ukraine national team since 2007.
On August 4, 2023, he became a Shakhtar player, signing a contract until the end of the season.
Chyhrynskyi plays as a centre-back. He has good anthropometry, excellently reads the play and chooses his position properly.
