A Shakhtar graduate entered the club Academy at the age of 13 and passed all stages of training. He made his debut for the senior team in the cup game against Dnister in August 2009 and soon became a regular player. Yaroslav played for the Miners until 2019 (326 appearances, 14 goals), claiming 19 trophies together with the team.
From 2009 to 2018, he played 54 matches and scored 4 goals for Ukraine national team. The defender participated in Euro 2012 and Euro 2016.
Yaroslav Rakitskyi returned to Shakhtar on January 16, 2023, signing the six-month contract with the club.
He plays as a centre-back. Yaroslav is a physically strong, experienced and technically gifted football player. He skilfully joins attacks, advances the ball well using diagonal passes, has a powerful long-range shot.
