Marlon is a product of Brazilian side Fluminense, where he made his senior debut in 2014. In 2016, he joined Spanish club Barcelona on loan and signed a permanent deal with the Catalans in early 2017. He spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Nice. Marlon played for Italian side Sassuolo from 2018 to 2021.
He joined Shakhtar in the summer of 2021 and made 22 appearances for the club over six months. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he was loaned out to Italian Monza and Brazilian Fluminense. In the 2024/25 season, Marlon played for Los Angeles FC (26 matches, 1 goal), taking part in three games at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the USA. Winner of the Spanish Cup (2017), Ukrainian Super Cup (2021), Copa Libertadores (2023) and US Open Cup (2024).
He rejoined Shakhtar in July 2025.
Marlon plays as a central defender. He is strong in tackling and positioning, confident on the ball and boasts an excellent long pass.
